Can Fantasy Managers Trust Bo Nix In His Rookie Year?
Bo Nix spent five seasons in college, amassing 1286 completions on 1936 attempts (66.4% completion rate) for 15351 yards (7.9 yards per attempt), 113 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. He also added 405 carries for 1613 yards (4.0 yards per attempt) with 38 touchdowns. Bo Nix has to beat out Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham, which should honestly be the most accessible quarterback competition in the league.
As the first first-round pick Sean Payton has made as the Broncos Head Coach, Bo Nix is on track to be the starter in Week One. For fantasy purposes, this is a massive difference-maker in the rookie class. Drake Maye and Michael Penix are projected to sit for at least the first half of the season. More than half the time, Nix is being drafted after both of those players.
The Broncos don't have a great supporting cast. Courtland Sutton is a good receiver, but his elite days could be past him. Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims have upside but are not proven. Denver has little to no production from the Tight End group. The running backs should be able to add to the passing game, but none specialize in it.
The offensive line is also below average, so the most significant things Nix has going for him are his spot on the depth chart and Sean Payton's history of elevating fantasy quarterbacks. Nix could be a better option in the late first round than Maye or Penix if you have a desperate need to start a quarterback early in the season. If you have guys who could start, Maye would be the best pick.
Our consensus projections for Nix in the 2024 season would be: 361 completions, 3699 yards, 23 touchdowns, 11 interceptions through the air, and 34 carries for 142 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
