Braelon Allen: Insane Fantasy Profile But Held Back By This
Braelon Allen was once considered the next stud of fantasy football (especially in devy leagues) after his monstrous freshman season in 2021, but for whatever reason, the buzz fell off. He was drafted in the 4th round at pick 134 overall to the New York Jets, which also causes concern cause Breece Hall is many analysts pick to upstage CMC as RB1 overall.
This doesn't bode well for a backup, even one with the production such as Allen. He racked up 597 carries for 3494 yards (5.9 yards per attempt) and 35 touchdowns, and he added 49 receptions for 275 yards (5.6 yards per reception) with no receiving touchdowns.
Allen’s first two seasons, he had over 1200 rushing yards and at least 11 touchdowns, which is insane, especially at 6’2, 238 pounds. He profiles to be a workhorse; it just so happens he landed with a team with one of the best young RBs in the league with Breece Hall.
Allen is mostly going in the fourth round of rookie drafts, which, considering his production and athletic profile, could be a value. He just landed in an almost insurmountable depth chart. If Hall gets hurt again, then he does have a legit upside, unlike some of these other backs, but it is highly unlikely he will force a committee backfield. He is a priority waiver if something happens to Hall, and he is a good handcuff in dynasty leagues.
Our consensus projections for Allen in the 2024 season are 79 carries for 169 yards and 0 rushing touchdowns. As well as 15 receptions, 97 yards, and 1 touchdown.
