Buffalo Bills Have A Big Decision To Make
Going into the offseason, Ed Oliver is the only defensive tackle that the Bills have under contract. Before and after his Injury, Jones proved that he could play at a high level and continue to be Buffalo's answer for a run-stuffing 1T defensive lineman.
However, it is important to weigh the factors of his age and salary. At 32 years old, Jones is entering the later stages of his career, which raises concerns about his long-term performance. While he hasn't had many injuries in his career, the risk of them becomes more prominent the older he gets.
Additionally, his contract demands could place a strain on the team's salary cap. Spotrac currently has Jones' market value at around $6.8 million per season. Buffalo is already over the cap by more than $50 million going into next season and may need to work on finding value in cheaper contracts to continue adding to their arsenal.
DaQuan Jones played fantastic for this defense when he was healthy, and the team should consider re-signing him; however, the Bills should continue to think about the need to get younger and cheaper, allowing for flexibility in building a sustainable roster for the future. While Jones has been valuable, it may be in the team's best interest to explore other options that offer a combination of youth and affordability if they can't come to a manageable agreement.
