Devante Parker Week 7 2021 Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports
The Miami Dolphins send Devante Parker and a 2022 fifth-rounder to New England in exchange for a 2023 third-rounder. The price at first may seem steep compared to other wide receiver trades. However, Devante Parker is still under contract for two seasons (an 8.7 million dollar cap hit in 2022 and 9 million in 2023). Parker has been a very productive player when on the field. He has missed 9 games over the last two seasons.
Another factor to look into is that New England should receive a third-round compensatory pick in 2023 for the departure of J.C Jackson. This most likely impacted New England’s decision as Belichick doesn’t typically trade top 100 picks away.
What Devante Parker Brings When On The Field?
In seven seasons with the Dolphins, selected 14th overall in 2015 Devante Parker appeared in 93 games. At 6-3 and 219 pounds, he’s produced 24 touchdowns. A big strong target in the red zone and a true outside threat. He is 29 years old and had a Pro Football Focus grade of 72.8 last season.
When Miami’s offense used him as its centerpiece he had over 1200 yards and 9 touchdowns. The 2019 Dolphins did not have a lot of playmakers so he made the offense function. With size, speed, and strength at the catch point. He is a contested-catch specialist.
Adding Parker to a skill position unit that includes Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers, and Damien Harris. He brings a dimension that hopefully will elevate the caliber of play of and around QB Mac Jones. Bill Belichick does have a history of trading for veterans that have played well against him (Welker, Revis, Rodney).
Patriots fans will never forget the last year with Brady in 2019 when Parker got the best of eventual defensive player of the year Stephon Gilmore and New England lost the bye in the Playoffs

Will The Patriots Continue To Add At WR?
Parker is a massive boost to the current wideout room and to Mac’s development. That said, I still believe that New England will take a mid-round wideout at NFL Draft at the end of this month, the class this year is rather deep. John Metchie, Slade Bolden are options if the value is right.
