Brenden Rice Has Opportunities For Fantasy In Rookie Year

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Brenden Rice with the 225th overall pick in the 7th round of the NFL draft. He spent 4 years in college where he compiled 111 receptions for 1821 yards (16.4 yards per reception) and 21 touchdowns.

Rice is a name known around the NFL world; many thought Jerry Rice’s son would get better draft capital than falling to the seventh round, but the landing spot is juicy. The Chargers must replace Keenan Allen, Austin Eckler, and Mike Williams. Ladd McConkey is most likely to work in the slot, so those outside spots are fair game since neither QJ nor Joshua Palmer has truly broken out.

Rice is a large technician with the speed to complete the job. If he could beat out one of those guys for a starting job, Harbaugh and the Chargers would likely rely on the run game, which caps Rice’s short-term upside. In the long term, if he wins a spot on the starting roster, he will be paired with Herbert for the foreseeable future.

Our consensus predictions for Rice are: 26 receptions off 39 targets, with 317 receiving yards and 2 TDs.
