Browns Swing And Miss On One Of Their Top Targeted Trade Prospects
Updated: Oct 2, 2023
A wide receiver trade finally happened on Sunday morning, and it did not involve the Cleveland Browns who have been rumored to be in the mix for the player.
Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a 5th-round pick this year, and a 6th-round pick next season.
The Browns have been a rumored team for Cooks’ services since it was known that he wanted out of Houston this offseason.
Cooks spent three seasons with the Texans and played with current Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson in the 2020 season.
Browns Missed On A Familiar Face For Watson
Many thought the Browns would try to reunite the two in Cleveland, but they had other ideas, and it seemed like Cooks was never on their radar.
Cooks is going into his 10th season in the NFL, and this will be his fifth different team so maybe the Browns just didn’t want to go down that road.
There is no question that Cleveland needed to add to the receiver room, but trading for one is probably not a realistic option at this moment.
Signing a veteran free agent to a team-friendly deal and drafting one very high with either their second or third-round pick is probably the option at the moment.
Browns Did Add A Texans Pass Catcher
The Browns might’ve not traded for Cooks, but they did sign another Texans pass catcher this past week adding tight end, Jordan Akins.
Akins spent five seasons with the Texans and played with Watson for three of them so that could maybe be a security blanket for the quarterback.
Brown’s head coach Kevin Stefanski loves using his tight ends so there is a good chance that Cleveland will be using David Njoku, Akins, and Harrison Bryant a lot in two and three tight end sets.
The Brown’s offseason isn’t even close to being over, and there could be a trade or some big move in the works, but as of right now, Cleveland has done a good job in the free-agent market.
