Browns Won't Be Releasing This Fan Favorite
It's NFL rumor season, so it's time for all 32 NFL teams to have false reports flying around their organization, and one of them was the Cleveland Browns releasing one of their best players.
Some rumors lately stated that Browns running back Nick Chubb could be
released by the start of free agency due to his contract.
Chubb is going into the final year of his contract and is due to take on around a 15 million dollar cap hit, but if he were released, the Browns would save around 11 million, only having to give him four million in dead cap.
It's no surprise that the Browns have salary cap issues, so getting under in by the league year start date will be something general manager Andrew Berry will have to do. Still, it's easy to re-do contracts and move money around, which will likely happen with Chubb this off-season.
Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot published an article Thursday morning titled Why The Browns Have No Plans To Cut Nick Chubb, And When He'll Be Back On The Field.
Mary Kay Cabot is one of the most knowledgeable Browns reporters and has so many connections around the team and the NFL, so if she says something, it's probably accurate.
That is excellent news for the team if Chubb is not released and is in the starting backfield sometime this season.
Chubb is coming off missing most of last season due to a knee injury in Week Two, but when we last saw him play, he was one of the best running backs in the league; the Browns needed him back because the running game did fall off last season when he was not there.
