Bryce Young Has A Chance At Fantasy Redemption In 2024
The 1st overall pick in the 2023 draft had a very disappointing rookie season. In 5 of the 16 games he started, Young had weeks where he finished within the top 20 QBs and had 8 games where he failed to produce a touchdown. He also had the lowest yards per passing attempt in the league, with a measly 5.5 yards per attempt and one of the lowest completion percentages on deep throws.
It’s hard to pin all the blame on Young, as the Panthers surrounded him with maybe one of the worst teams a rookie quarterback has had to deal with in a while. The Panthers' front office made some moves this offseason to change that for him, with a new coaching staff and a revamped roster.
Veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson and rookie Xavier Legette were both added to the team's wide receiver room, which desperately needed the help. Rookie Tight End J’Tavion Sanders was also drafted with the hopes of decent production from the position. The Panthers also improved the offensive line, which is huge for Young, as he barely had much time to get throws off in the 2023 season.
Possibly the biggest change that the Panthers made was bringing in Dave Canales to be this team's Head Coach; Canales has a history of getting great QB production from his teams (helped revamp Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield's careers). He created a system that allows the QB to thrive, let's see if he can recreate it.
The Panthers still hope that he can become their franchise quarterback, and he still has long-term value, making him a potential buy-low candidate in dynasty leagues. However, in 1 QB redraft leagues, Young should avoid being drafted and will likely be available on the waiver wire if he improves his game in the 2024 season.
Our consensus projections for Young in the 2024 season would be: 362 completions, 3834 yards, 20 touchdowns, 9 interceptions through the air, and 45 carries for 317 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
