Bryce Young Might Go Down As The Biggest Bust In NFL History

It has been two weeks from the 2024 regular season, and it will be a long one for some teams. The main example of that is the Carolina Panthers, who are easily the worst team in the NFL and it's not even close. A big reason is the poor quarterback play from Bryce Young, which has not looked good for him at all.

How Bad Has Bryce Young Been?

The hope was that changing the coaching staff and upgrading the offense would help him, but it hasn't. Carolina got destroyed by both the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers. The team has been outscored 73-13 in eight quarters this year. That's just depressing.

After watching Young in these two games and re-watching last season's tape, it's clear Young is beyond cooked. His mechanics are broken, and he looks beyond sloppy on the field. Young's confidence is the lowest many fans have ever seen in a QB. He’s nervous in the pocket and makes really poor decisions. His lack of awareness is shockingly bad missing open receivers and it's crazy how much he overthrew the ball to a wide-open Adam Thielen who deserves better.

The moves Carolina made this offseason were really smart, but there is no salvaging Young as he's just too far gone. It doesn't help too that Carolina's defense is atrociously bad. Carolina is likely going to get the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft where they will likely take a QB. Now the Panthers are going a step further, they have now benched Bryce Young. Andy Dalton will now be the starting QB for the Panthers.

Why The Young Pick Is Worse Than JaMarcus Russell

As stated in the title, Bryce Young might go down as the biggest bust in NFL history. I honestly think he's a worse selection than JaMarcus Russell. JaMarcus Russell may be a piece of work, but at least the Raiders didn't trade a premium haul to draft him. Carolina did that to get Young and that trade makes this selection so much worse. Speaking of...

THE TRADE

Carolina acquired:

2023 first-round pick (No. 1 overall) - Used on Bryce Young.

Chicago acquired:

WR D.J. Moore

2023 first-round pick (No. 9 overall)

2023 second-round pick (No. 61 overall)

2024 first-round pick (No. 1 overall)

2025 second-round pick

Giving Up D.J. Moore Screamed Overpay

D.J. Moore alone was a complete overpay as he was the best receiver that the franchise had since Steve Smith Sr. Moore would have been useful for Carolina in developing Bryce Young as he is a much better number-one receiver than anyone Carolina has.

Moore is thriving in Chicago as well. The picks alone were so much value to move up eight spots, but adding Moore to the deal was too high of a price for the team. As for the picks the Bears utilized it makes the trade worse.

The 2023 First-Round Pick Turned To...

The 2023 first-round pick was used to select Darnell Wright. Wright is one of the best young blockers in the NFL who showed promise in his rookie season. His first two games of the 2024 season have been shaky, but there is still a lot of promise for him. Wright helped boost their offensive line in the present and potentially the future.

The 2023 Second-Round Pick Turned To...

The 2023 second-round pick was traded to Jacksonville who selected TE Brenton Strange. The Bears used the pick to trade up in the 2023 draft and selected CB Tyrique Stevenson. He has become one of their great secondary players on that defense not named Jaylon Johnson.

Carolina's Bad 2023 Season Lead To The First Overall Pick, Oh Wait...

The 2023 NFL Season was just a disaster for the organization and the team got the worst record. The Carolina Panthers secured the 2024 first overall pick which they could have used to help build the team.

Oh wait, that pick was sent to the Bears in the Bryce Young trade. It was used to select QB Caleb Williams, who was labeled as a generational prospect and could become the franchise QB in Chicago.

In Conclusion, Bryce Young Might Be The Biggest Bust In NFL History

They couldn't have failed a trade if they tried. That's not including the 2025 second-round pick that Chicago also has the property of. That trade alone will go down as one of the worst in NFL history next to the Herschel Walker, Deshaun Watson, and Russell Wilson trades.

From what it looks like now Bryce Young is going to go down as one of the biggest busts in NFL history and a tremendous lowlight in Panther's history. It grows more that now the Panthers have benched Bryce Young only 1.25 years into his career.
