Buffalo Bills Acquire Two-Time Super Bowl Champion
The Buffalo Bills are adding a little speed to their offense. The team announced this morning that they have signed former Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons in Kansas City, where he won Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs. After trading away star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans earlier this off-season, the Bills are adding another veteran to the new receiving room.
Buffalo Bills Add Speed By Signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, nicknamed "MVS," was picked in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. The former South Florida star was the second out of three wide receivers the Packers took in that draft class, but he would be the most successful.
In his rookie season, MVS finished with 581 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including two games where he recorded over 100 yards. After a promising rookie season, MVS could not match his 2018 total to the next season, finishing shy of 500 receiving yards despite being fully healthy.
His 2020 season would be his best, improving his career-high yard total to 690 and adding six touchdowns. He did have a costly fumble in the 34-31 overtime loss against the Indianapolis Colts, which set the blue and white in field-goal position.
After an underwhelming 2021 season, Valdes-Scantling signed with the Kansas City Chiefs for three-years worth $30 million. In the AFC Championship Game, he had his best playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he had 116 yards in the 23-20 win. He followed up his Super Bowl-winning 2022 season with another chance at the big game in Super Bowl LVIII. Unlike the previous year, MVS caught a touchdown on the biggest stage.
Contract Details
Buffalo Bills sign Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract worth 4.5 million dollars.
This is a good move for the Buffalo Bills. They get a speedy playmaker who can be good when he holds onto the ball. While he won't be WR1, this low-risk, high-reward signing could become Josh Allen's favorite target. With his speed and Allen's strong arm, there could be a lot of deep passes for the new-look Buffalo Bills in 2024.
