Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History In Win

Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History In Win

For Caitlin Clark making history is no big deal anymore. Saturday she became the first rookie in the WNBA’s 27-year history to record a triple-double. Her Indiana Fever upset the New York Liberty, 83-78.

Clark also became the first to score a triple-double in Indiana Fever franchise history. She finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists. She either scored or assisted on 46 of the Fever’s 83 points. Clark also became the fastest player to score 350+ points with 150+ assists in WNBA history.

Clark Is Becoming A More Complete Player

Clark isn’t pouring in 40 points each night anymore, but this isn’t the NCAA. She’s learning to play more of a team game in the pros.

“She’s the most competitive human being I’ve ever met, I really compare her to Diana Taurausi,” Fever head coach Christie Sides said. “She’s always looking to find ways to get better… She just wants to win; she’s going to be my rookie of the year.”

"I feel like we're playing good team basketball," Clark said during her postgame interview. "My teammates are finishing really well around the rim, and I wanna find them.

Clark said she’s still working on her game. “It would have been nice if I could've made a couple more threes; they gave me some good looks. But just happy for our group, a great win, great for our fans, and that's just fun basketball."

Signature Win For An Improving Team

The Fever were down 11 in the fourth quarter before coming back to beat the best team in the league. Aliyah Boston had 18 points.

Head coach Christie Sides lost her voice on the sideline during Saturday’s game. She says the team has worked toward this type of win all season.

“This team is just learning along the way every day. We only score 15 in the second and 16 in the third at times like that when our offense wasn’t working we didn’t play good defense and that wasn’t the case tonight.”

The majority of the second half was difficult for the Fever. They still trailed by six with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter before taking the lead.
