The Charlotte Hornets Have Signed This Veteran Player

The Charlotte Hornets have had a quiet offseason. The only big addition to the team has been Josh Green, who the Hornets got Green from the Dallas Mavericks in the Klay Thompson sign and trade. Well, the Charlotte Hornets finally made a signing to the team and have added forward Taj Gibson to the roster. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, he is signing a 1-year deal worth 3.3 million dollars in total.

This is an interesting signing, as Gibson enters his 16th year in the NBA. His play has declined on the court, however this feels more like a locker room culture driven move. With how young this team is, the Hornets will need a veteran influence, and Gibson fits the bill.

It was rumored that Gibson was going to join the Knicks coaching staff when he retired. Well, he now has a new team to play on in Charlotte, and it his coaching plans will be put on hold.

Taj Gibson is unlikely to be an every-game starter for the Hornets. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if he never starts an NBA game with them unless the team faces significant injuries like last season. This signing is a low-risk move, but it should benefit the team by providing a veteran presence to guide and mentor the younger players. Plus, he fills a roster spot, so Charlotte doesn't lose anything by making this signing.

This past season, he played in a combined 20 games with the Knicks and Detroit Pistons. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
