Chigoziem Okonkwo Buried On The Depth Chart For Fantasy
Chigoziem Okonkwo was a hot late-round tight-end pick for many last seasons after he showed big-play potential in his rookie season. Chig did improve from his rookie season, but he wasn’t the fantasy asset people were hoping for, and it doesn’t seem like a breakout will happen this season.
The biggest issue between his rookie year and 2023 is that he had 14.06 yards per reception in 2022, which went all the way down to 9.78 yards per reception last season. Tennesse's only real receiving threat last season was Deandre Hopkins. This season, Hopkins is still there, but Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd were also added to the offense.
Last season, Chig put up 54 receptions for 528 yards and 1 touchdown, which is solid production but not game-breaking by any means. Chig was a consistent 6-10 points per game last season in half PPR, and that’s fine for a tight end, but he didn’t show the upside it seemed he had.
This season, it appears Chig will be the lead receiving tight end, but he will also split reps with others. Chig is worth a dart throw late in best-ball drafts or re-draft leagues because he probably will have some good weeks here and there, but he shouldn’t be counted on as a weekly starter anywhere.
Our consensus projections for Okonkwo in the 2024 season are 58 receptions, 620 yards, and 4 touchdowns.
