Christian Watson's Fantasy Value Hinges On His Hamstring

In 2023, Watson missed the first 3 games of the season due to a hamstring injury he incurred in the preseason. He re-aggravated this injury in Week 13 and missed the remainder of the regular season. Between Weeks 4 - 13, when Watson was healthy, he was WR29. Christian Watson was a top 10 Wide Receiver twice in that span, with both coming in his last two games played.

On the other hand, he had 4 straight weeks after the bye week where he finished WR60 or worse. All four defenses he faced in that stretch were in the top half of the league in points given up to the wide receiver position. His two top-ten performances came against teams in the bottom half of the league. His quarterback, Jordan Love, also had 7 of his 11 QB1 finishes come against defenses in the bottom 16 in terms of fantasy points given up to the quarterback.

Watson is still too boom-or-bust to recommend starting every time he has a favorable matchup, but watch out for those bust performances in the weeks he has difficult matchups. Watson will also face more competition this year, with Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks looking to build upon their rookie season.

Check out Reed’s and Wick’s profiles for a further breakdown of their splits while Watson was healthy vs. when he was injured. Watson’s ADP currently lays at 8.09, which is WR43.

Our consensus projections for the 2024 season are 51 receptions, 772 yards, 7 touchdowns through the air, 10 carries for 112 yards, and 1 rushing touchdown.
