Cincinnati Bengals Acquires This Running Back To Bolster The Offense (Trade Grade)
The final day of the trade deadline is a time when teams make a deal to help themselves. They either get rid of a player who has done nothing all season, or bolster their core by adding a player. The Bengals and Bears did that today by agreeing on a trade regarding RB Khalil Herbert. The details of that trade are
Trade Details for Khalil Herbert
Cincinnati Bengals Acquire: RB Khalil Herbert
Chicago Bears Acquire: 2025 7th Round
Cincinnati Bengals Side
The moment Zack Moss suffered his neck injury, the Bengals were in the market for a running back. Chase Brown is a solid back, but Cincinnati had nothing behind him. Herbert is an upgrade, and he is going to provide this offense a power back that they have been missing since Joe Mixon got traded. Herbert is absolutely an upgrade over Trayveon Williams and Kendall Hinton, and for a 7th-round pick, why not take a chance on him?
Chicago Bears Side
Talk about a tremendous fall for Khalil Herbert in Chicago. Here's a guy, who at one point, was viewed as the future of the Bears, and the main guy at running back. Now he's been traded for a 7th-round pick. He's been a ghost this year in Chicago. There have been games where Herbert was a healthy scratch as well. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it was obvious he was not going to be resigned. Getting some value for him is better than losing him for nothing.
Grades For Khalil Herbert's Trade
Chicago Bears: B
Cincinnati Bengals: B+
A win-win trade for both teams. The Bengals get the slightly higher grade here, due to the desperate need for a running back and not having to pay much to get him. Chicago at least gets something for a player who has mainly been a ghost the whole season for them. Hopefully, for everyone involved, this works out well.
