Cleveland Browns Expected To Move On From This Pro Bowler

The Cleveland Browns are entering a big off-season after finishing 11-6 and making the National Football League playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season. While the team lost its only playoff game to the Houston Texans, there are so many bright spots and reasons why the team can be just as good in 2024 and compete for a Super Bowl title. But unfortunately, general manager Andrew Berry has his work cut out for him, as the Browns have one of the worst cap situations in the league. With about $20 million over the cap limit, Cleveland will have to make some tough decisions to save some cap room. This may include cutting fan-favorites and opting to not re-sign some key players.

Kareem Hunt And Cleveland Browns Likely To Part Ways

The Cleveland Browns are not expected to re-sign 28 year-old running back Kareem Hunt this offseason when his contract expires per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. The former Kansas City Chiefs draft pick was a superstar in his rookie season, but due to an off-field incident he was released in 2018 by the Chiefs and signed by Cleveland in 2019. He has been the Browns primary backup to superstar running back Nick Chubb and has seen some starts when Chubb was out with injury.

While there have been rumors that Nick Chubb might be a cut candidate this off-season, it is highly unlikely that he will be released as he is a fan-favorite and a leader and role model in the locker room. When healthy, Chubb was one of the best running backs in the National Football League and hopefully he will be able to fully recover from his knee injury he suffered last fall.

As for Kareem Hunt, he should have plenty of suitors in free agency. While he almost signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints before returning to Cleveland, Hunt could very well find a new home before the start of the 2024 NFL season. Some potentially teams that might sign him include the Saints, Indianapolis Colts (if they move on from Zach Moss) and Green Bay Packers (if they do not re-sign A.J. Dillon).
