Cleveland Browns Release Quarterback Days Before The Season
The Cleveland Browns are heading into a new season and last year; they played quarterback carousel when Deshaun Watson got hurt.
The Browns brought in veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who did an excellent job bringing them to the playoffs. Still, Flacco signed with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason, leaving the Browns to find new backup quarterbacks.
This offseason, the Browns brought in two quarterbacks in addition to Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson: Tyler Huntley and Jameis Winston.
Winston was signed to be Watson's main backup, and Huntley was brought in to compete with Thompson-Robinson for the third-string job after making the initial 53-man roster on Tuesday; Huntley was released on Thursday afternoon.
The second-year quarterback Thompson-Robinson outplayed Huntley in the preseason, and there was no point in keeping four quarterbacks on the roster.
The move to eliminate Huntley helped the Browns bring back running back D'Onta Foreman, whom they cut on Tuesday.
The Browns should be good with quarterbacks this season. Hopefully, Watson stays healthy all year, and they won't have to worry about any of the backups.
