College Baseball Top 25 Rankings: Texas, Arkansas Lead The Way
Our first installment of the College Baseball Top 25 rankings features Texas as the top ranked team ahead of the Ole Miss Rebels. Over the past week, the Ole Miss Rebels went 2-2 with a four run loss to Southeast Louisiana and a 14 run loss to Auburn. Despite being the top team most of the season, these two losses combined with a 4-1 week from the Texas Longhorns have placed the Longhorns above the Rebels.
Notre Dame had a tough week with three straight losses to Louisville after a midweek win against Valparaiso. Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Arkansas were the stars of the week with perfect records.
Tennessee Volunteers
The Tennessee Volunteers beat Eastern Kentucky in a midweek matchup. They followed it up with a three game sweep of Southeastern Conference opponent South Carolina. Starting pitcher Drew Beam threw 7 2/3 innings with a perfect six innings. Beam, a freshmen, struck out three Gamecocks.
Vanderbilt Commodores
The Vanderbilt Commodores finished the fifth week of the season with a perfect four games. In those four games, infielder Tate Kolwyck hit .467 with two doubles, two homeruns, and seven runs batted in. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt continues to develop young pitchers and lefty Carter Holton is no different. Against Missouri, Holton pitched a masterful seven innings while striking out 10 and only walking one. The Commodores are riding a 16 game win streak.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The Arkansas Razorbacks swept their opponents in the Kentucky Wildcats on their way to an 11 game winning streak. The Razorbacks’ weekend was led by Jaxon Wiggins striking out eight batters over six scoreless innings.
