College Football Playoffs: Power 12 Rankings
College football is already headed into week 9. Soon the first college football playoffs (CFP) Rankings will be revealed for the 2023 season. Each year at the end of October or beginning of November the first CFP Rankings come out. Here at College SportsCast, we want to get a jump on selecting our top power 12 teams with a chance at making the last 4-team field this season.
In 2024, the CFPlayoffs will be expanded to a 12-team field. The top 4 will have a round one bye week. As that soon begins, we believe a College SportsCast Power 12 is a good place to start for our rankings. This season only the top four teams will get into the CFPlayoffs.
College SportsCast CFP Power 12
1 - Georgia
They lost their best player TE Brock Bowers for 4-6 weeks but keep finding ways to win. The 2-time defending champs have the 3rd longest consecutive week streak at number one in the AP top 25 poll at 19 straight weeks. New 2023 QB Carson Beck has come along nicely and is keeping the Bulldogs atop of the rankings for now.
2 - Michigan
QB JJ McCarthy and his Wolverines are cruising through so far. Unfortunately, their schedule is one of the weakest in the country at this point. Penn State and Ohio State coming up soon will tell us exactly where this team stacks up.
3 - Ohio State
Ryan Day keeps finding ways to win. They pulled out low scoring games against Notre Dame and Penn State in test this season. WR Marvin Harrison Jr is the best player in college football in my opinion. The Michigan rivalry at the end of the regular season will determine a lot in making the CFP.
4 - Florida State
The Seminoles have quite possibly the best resume so far this season with wins over LSU, Clemson, and Duke. Coach Mike Norvell and QB Jordan Travis has FSU in the hunt to make the playoffs this season to this point.
5 - Washington
QB Michael Penix Jr has been the best player in college football this season so far for my money. Their potent offense has the Huskies on the cusp of something special and a chance at making the CFPlayoffs.
6 - Oklahoma
QB Dillon Gabriel and Head Coach Brent Venables have led the Sooners to a drastic turnaround from a year ago. They are 7-0 with a late win over rival Texas. They could be on a collision course with a rematch with Texas in the Big 12 championship game.
7 - Texas
8 - Oregon
9 - Alabama
10 - Penn State
11 - Oregon State
12 - Utah/Missouri - tie
As the end of the season heats up these rankings will change. There are tons yet to be determined. Who steps up to win the big games? Which teams will emerge from nowhere?
Will the favorites continue to dominate? Who gets left out of the 4-team field? It is going to be a fun finish to the season to find out. Stay with us weekly to see our updated Power 12 rankings.
