Conn Smythe Winner Finds New Team In NHL Free Agency
Just a little over a year after winning the Conn Smythe Trophy and becoming a Stanley Cup champion with the Vegas Golden Knights, Jonathan Marchessault is saying goodbye to Las Vegas. The 33-year-old forward has decided to not re-sign with the Golden Knights and has reportedly signed with the Nashville Predators. This will be his fifth team in his 13-year-career.
Jonathan Marchessault Heads To Nashville To Join Uprising Predators
After going undrafted in 2011, it took a while for Marchessault to make an NHL roster, bouncing back and forth between AHL squads. After the Columbus Blue Jackets traded him to the Tampa Bay Lightning, he was able to get called up and score his first goal in 2015. After he signed with the Florida Panthers, he broke out with 30 goals and 51 points.
After paying close attention to his breakout season, the new franchise Golden Knights drafted Marchessault in the expansion draft and immediately signed him to a six-year contract. That contract recently expired, which allowed Marchessault to hit the market for the first time since 2016.
With the Golden Knights, he produced six straight 40+ point seasons, including a career-high 42 goals in 2023-24. He scored 25 points in 22 games while leading Vegas to a Stanley Cup championship in June 2023 and being awarded Conn Smythe’s trophy for MVP of the postseason.

He will now join the Nashville Predators along with Lightning captain and two-time Stanley Cup champion Steven Stamkos to help a team that finished 47-30-5 last season but lost in the first-round of the playoffs. Could Marchessault again lead a team without a championship to its first Stanley Cup victory? Marchessault is reportedly signing a five-year contract worth over five million per year.
