Cordarrelle Patterson Is "Staying Alive" For Fantasy
The fact that CP is still out here getting contracts is wild. The 33-year-old has been an excellent gadget piece and consummate professional during his time in the league, but his yards per touch has declined in the last two seasons. In 2021, he had 205 touches and averaged 5.7 yards per touch, and in 2022, he had 165 touches with a 5-yard per-touch average, which is good but still a decrease from the year prior.
Last year, he had 59 touches for 3.7 yards per touch, which is a full 2 yards lower than in 2021 and the lowest mark in his ten-year career. Patterson follows Arthur Smith from ATL to Pittsburgh, where he is again thrown into a committee with very capable backs.
If Smith were smart (which I don't think he is), he would have Cordarrelle Patterson play primarily as a receiver. With the lack of consistent and proven players behind Pickens (they won’t,) Patterson will be underused and not very valuable for your fantasy rosters moving forward.
If there are no injuries, CP will have difficulty getting consistent touches. His dynasty value is gone, and in the redraft, he should be on the waiver wire unless it's clear what his usage will be next week.
Our consensus projections for Patterson in the 2024 season are 19 carries for 126 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. As well as 18 receptions, 89 yards, and 1 touchdown.
