Dameon Pierce Burned Brightly But His Fantasy Fire Is Out

Dameon Pierce was a dynasty darling after his rookie campaign. With 250 touches, 1104 total yards (4.4 yards per touch), and 5 touchdowns, he finished in the top ten of offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Oh, how fast can the tables turn?

Last season, he lost his role to Devin Singletary and this offseason, the Texans traded for Joe Mixon to be their workhorse back. Once Mixon gets his hands on a starting role, good luck trying to find playing time. Even if Mixon were to go down to injury, Pierce would have to compete with newly signed Cam Akers, rookie Jawhar Jordan, and journeyman Dare Ogunbowale for the backfield touches.

Well, his light shined brightly, but it did not shine for long, as he could be out of a job when his rookie contract is up next season. He could be a stash candidate if you have deeper rosters, but in conventional redraft leagues, he is a waiver-wire player who will likely be added and dropped numerous times throughout the season. Do not put yourself in a position where you "need" him even for a week. Build your roster better.

Our consensus projections for Pierce in the 2024 season are 113 carries for 319 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. As well as 13 receptions, 83 yards, and 1 touchdown.
