Darnell Mooney Change Of Scenery Helps Fantasy Value

Darnell Mooney is walking into a new situation in the 2024 season. Mooney signed with the Falcons during the offseason. Still, he’s facing the potential for inconsistent production with the crowded offense that features RB Bijan Robinson, WR Drake London, and TE Kyle Pitts. Last season with the Bears can be considered the worst of his career.

Mooney only averaged 4.07 targets and 27.6 yards per game with quarterback Justin Fields, although his production slightly increased when quarterback Tyson Bagent replaced Fields while he was injured. Mooney had the fourth-highest drop rate among WRs with 40+ targets and ranked 80th in the PFF receiving grade.

Mooney had two weeks last season where he finished as a WR2; the rest of the time, he failed to finish above WR45. The offense hasn't been conducive for a second relevant fantasy option. The Falcons do offer an upgrade, but London, Pitts, and Bijan will be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Being on a new team in a new city may have a positive effect on Mooney’s efficiency. The Falcons’ offense is being led by quarterback Kirk Cousins and a new offensive coordinator, Zac Robinson, who led the Rams to an average of 628 passes per season. Darnell Mooney’s current ADP is 15.4, and he’s being taken as the 72nd wide receiver in the draft.

Our consensus projections for Mooney in the 2024 season would be 51 receptions, 678 yards, and 4 touchdowns.
