David Montgomery Still Has Fantasy Value In 2024
In David Montgomery’s first season with the Lions, he excelled for being in a two-RB system. He finished the year as RB 17 and had six weeks within a top-15 finish. This all came with him missing 3 weeks. Montgomery's worst finish out of the 13 games, which he played the entirety of, was week 18, where he finished as RB28. Many fear that Jahmyr Gibbs will take a bigger workload in 2024, which could hurt Montgomery's playing time.
However, from week 10 and on, Montgomery only played over 50 percent of snaps in two weeks and still managed to finish as a top-24 RB in all but two of those weeks. Some may see his 13 touchdowns as a fluke year, but former Lion Jamaal Williams had produced 17 TDs for the team the year before.
The Lions have a strong running game and powerful offensive line to support a running back who scores a high number of TDs once again. Montgomery will more than likely continue to be the team's lead power back, which will give him another year of great red zone opportunities.
His role in the receiving game is the main concern, as last year he only managed to bring in 16 receptions, and Gibbs excels in the receiving role. Montgomery will serve well as a late RB2 or a solid RB3 once again in the 2024 season.
Our consensus projections for Montgomery in the 2024 season are 219 carries for 963 yards and 11 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 22 receptions for 160 yards and 1 touchdown.
