De'Aaron Fox 60 Point Game Makes History

DeAaron Fox, 60, Point, Points, Kings, Stadium Rant

Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox made history on Friday, when he dropped 60 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He made 22 of 35 shot attempts, including 6 of 10 from three. He became the first player in Kings history to score 60 points in a game. He also broke the NBA's longest streak for most points in a game by a player for a particular franchise.

Confused? Jack Twyman scored 59 points for the Kings (then the Kansas City Royals) in 1960. The 64 years he held the team record, was the longest for any NBA franchise, until Fox scored 60. The longest streak in the league now belongs to Bob Petit, whose 57 points in 1961 is an Atlanta Hawks record.

How Does DeAaron Fox 60 Point Game Rank In History?

Players have scored 60 points or more in an NBA game 90 times in history. The feat has been achieved by 43 different players, and ten of those players have done it more than once. Leading the way in 60 point games, is arguably the best player in NBA history, Wilt Chamberlain, with 29. Nearly a third of all the 60 point games in NBA history belong to Chamberlain.

An example of just how dominant Wilt was, is that second on the list for most career 60 point games, is Kobe Bryant with six. James Harden and Michael Jordan are tied for third, with four games of 60 points or more. Wilt is also the only player to score 60+ points in a game for more than one franchise. He did it as a member of the Warriors, the 76ers, and the Lakers.

Chamberlain has scored 70 points or more six times, including an NBA record 100 points against the Knicks in 1962. He also holds the record for most 50 point games in an NBA career, with 118. Michael Jordan is second on that list with 31 games.

22 Franchises have had a player score 60 points or more in game. 11 of those teams play in the Western Conference, and 11 play in the Eastern conference. The accomplishment has been achieved eight times since the start of last season, with the team whose player scores 60 going 3-5 during that stretch.

Fox's stat line was certainly impressive, and it will be fascinating to see how his season progresses, and how it impacts Sacramento, who currently holds a 7-6 record.
