Derek Carr Costs Nothing & Could Bring Fantasy Value
The 2023 season was Carr's first year playing for the Saints, and he finished as QB 16. Carr's first season was an up-and-down affair, with seven games in which he failed to produce 12 fantasy points and nine weeks in which he finished within the top 15 quarterbacks. In his last four weeks of the season, he scored 26.32 (QB7), 32.96(QB3), 19.58(QB17), and 34.16 (QB1).
Carr could've won streamers Fantasy Championships if they were brave enough to start him. Even though he didn't miss a single game, Carr had to fight through the season after multiple injuries.
The Saints' playing calling was also super inconsistent, as they changed their style many times, trying to find an identity for the offense. The Saints brought in new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who could help the team establish how to run their offense correctly at an early point in the season.
Carr finished the season with a low 7.1 yards per passing attempt, but this was due to the offense's heavy reliance on RB Alvin Kamara throughout the season. This is partly due to the lack of receivers who are often able to get open down the field.
His targets this year will be Wide Receivers Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Cedrick Wilson, A.T. Perry, and Tight End Juwan Johnson. Even though the offense will be under new control, the Saints offense still lacks much to push Carr to an elite level, which makes him a backend QB2 in the 2024 season.
Our consensus projections for Carr in the 2024 season would be: 401 completions, 4206 yards, 26 touchdowns, 10 interceptions through the air, and 25 carries for 54 yards and 0 rushing touchdowns.
