Detroit Lions Give A Massive Extension To This Star Player
The Detroit Lions agreed to an extension with one of their most talented players on Wednesday. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has signed a four-year $120 million deal to stay with the Lions.
The 24-year-old gets $77 million guaranteed through the new contract. The deal makes St. Brown the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.
St. Brown Has Played A Huge Role In Detroit's Success
The Lions were a great success story last season, led by head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff. But Amon-Ra St. Brown also played a critical role in the team's success in 2023.
The former fourth-round draft pick finished the year with 1,515 yards and ten touchdowns on 164 targets. He finished third in the league in receiving yards, behind only Tyreek Hill and CeeDee Lamb.
St. Brown didn't slow down in the playoffs, either. He records 22 catches, 274 yards, and a receiving touchdown through three playoff outings. 110 of his post-season yardage came in the Wild Card matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Looking Ahead To This Season For The Lions
Detroit is no doubt looking to build on last season's success, starting with this week's NFL Draft. The Lions have seven draft selections heading into night one, beginning with the 29th overall pick on Thursday night.
"With where the roster is now," Lions' general manager Brad Holmes said in a recent interview for detroitlions.com when asked about the draft, "I think you even have more flexibility not to be anchored into a need."
That comment seemingly leaves the door open regarding who the team could draft. Detroit also holds the 73rd, 164th, 201st, 205th and 249th draft selections.
