Did WWE Fumble A Championship Reign?

Last week on Monday Night Raw, Bron Breakker defeated Jey Uso in a rematch to regain the Intercontinental Championship. Immediately, fans went to X to give their opinions on the title swap.

In replies to this post announcing his victory, many fans expressed their displeasure with the decision to take the title of Jey Uso and put it back on Bron Breakker. There were two primary opinions about this match regarding Jey. Some fans thought he should never have lost the match to Bron and should have kept the title. Others felt that if you would have him lose it so soon, why have him beat Bron in the first place?

This was not a clean victory for Breakker by any means. Solo Sikoa and fellow members of the new Bloodline interfered with the match, eventually allowing Bron Breakker to capitalize and win.

Following a super kick and Samoan drop by Jacob Fatu, Jey was all but defeated, lying lifeless on the announcer's table.

Bron Breakker would pick up the scraps of a weakened Jey Uso. Fatu rolled Jey back into the ring, and Breakker got to work. After his signature running off the ropes into a spear finishing move quickly covered the official counted to three and there was a new Intercontinental Champion.

Jey did not come out of this championship match worse than he started it. It took interference from The Bloodline for Breakker to eventually defeat Uso. While it was a short-lived title reign, it was impactful. Jey managed to stay over as champion and prove that in the future, he can handle wearing the belt. It is clear the long-term plan was not Jey Uso as Intercontinental Champion, but it was an amazing moment that Jey earned and deserved.

Shake's Championship Take:

Fans all over the internet were upset that Bron dropped the belt to Jey in the first place. They thought Breakker's reign was short or assumed Jey's reign would not last long. This led to the question, "Why even put the belt on him in the first place?" It is all about storytelling.

Jey Uso has had a long and decorated career without ever winning singles gold in WWE. This was a well-overdue moment. From tagging with his brother to the Bloodline story to a singles run and IC Tile, Jey has been through so much. Why not have him win the title against a huge future star in Bron Breakker? The Yeet movement has swept the WWE universe, and it was the perfect time to put a title on Jey.

To have Solo and the Bloodline come in and cost Jey the title is what makes this all okay for me. They cost him the only singles championship he ever won in WWE. They took away the only thing he had accomplished completely on his own. This only adds to the Bloodline story and gives Jey the motivation to rejoin his family to take on his brother Solo Sikoa and the new look Bloodline.
