DJ Chark Jr Gets Best QB Yet, But It Matters Little For Fantasy

Even though DJ Chark Jr played the most games he has since 2019, he is coming off one of his least productive seasons. He managed only 35 yards per game and often missed playing time to rookie Jonathan Mingo (who did not impress his rookie season).

Although Chark has not had an above-average season since 2019, not all is to blame on him for 2023. The Panthers lacked a solid offense, and with poor coaching, Chark didn’t get the chance to take advantage of his opportunities. This offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Chargers, a team that lacks proven wide receivers but has an excellent quarterback, Justin Herbert.

Even with the lack of receivers, there is still no guarantee that Chark will earn a starting role. New Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh is also known for traditionally running a heavier ground game than most coaches are. This alone limits the potential of all Chargers WRs, especially one who could be stuck as the team's WR3 or 4.

If Chark can develop a solid chemistry with Herbert this offseason, he may have some value to offer. However, for now, Chark should go undrafted and will likely find himself available on most waiver wires.

Our consensus projections for Chark in the 2024 season are 25 receptions, 427 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
