Draymond Green Fires NSFW Rant Against Young NBA Players Starting Podcasts

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is one of the pioneers among NBA players who have launched their own podcasts while still active in the league.

The 34-year-old recently made an appearance on former NBA player Jeff Teague's Club 520 Podcast while discussing the ever-increasing number of players starting their podcasts.

Although the four-time NBA champion acknowledged the vast potential in the podcasting space and the opportunities it offers, he expressed concern about younger players who might be starting their podcasts a little too soon.

“For some of these guys, they be in year three, still trying to figure it out, with a podcast. I love that you’re doing it, I love that you found something that you want to do, but you in year three and ain’t done s**t. Nobody really want to hear from you,” the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year said, to Teague’s agreement.

Green also believes that players should focus first on basketball before diving into off-court endeavors.

“When I see guys doing it now, I have two thoughts --- A, I like that you’re doing that, I think that’s super dope that you’re doing that. But B, make sure that you’re in the space to do it first. I see some guys starting now, and if you start now because you’re trying to make that your main job, great. Go for it. But you’re not in a space right now to do that and try to make it in basketball because you ain’t made it in that yet."

The five-time NBA All-Star noted that he only started his podcast later in his career when he began to plan for his post-playing ventures.

Despite his skepticism about young players making their pods, Green remains excited about players carving their lane.

Draymond Green's Podcast and Media Career

Green began his own The Draymond Green Show podcast in November 2021 at the beginning of the 2021-22 NBA season.

The Warriors won the NBA Championship during that campaign, with the forward notably making episodes of the show after each NBA Finals game.

The four-time All-NBA First Team member shared many bits of his career in the show, with several memorable moments including his thoughts about the recent departure of his longtime teammate Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks.

After making guest appearances for TNT's Inside the NBA in the past, the network signed him to an exclusive multi-year agreement to be an analyst for the famed studio show on a part-time basis, as well as some of TNT's other programming with Turner Sports and Bleacher Report.

However, with the league's new media rights deal starting in 2025-26 excluding TNT, the Saginaw, Michigan native may need to explore another path to discuss the NBA as an analyst on television very soon.
