Dylan Laube Could Have A Special Fantasy Career

Dylan Laube was drafted 209th overall by the Las Vegas Raiders. At 5’10, 208 pounds, Laube will not wow anyone with his in-between-the-tackles work, even though he averaged 5.2 yards per carry. His true strength comes in the receiving game, where he averages 60 targets a season (24, 60, 88).

His yards per route run in 2023 came in at 1.96, which ranked 5th among all running backs in college football. With 3833 scrimmage yards in just three seasons, Laube proved that he can be counted on to produce at the University of New Hampshire. This is a blessing and a curse because the competition he was facing was subpar at best. The question is whether he can do a similar thing at the pro level.

The Raiders have a relatively uninspiring. For as much everyone is talking up Zamir White, he had four good weeks in Weeks 15-18 against bad rushing defenses (LAC, KC, IND, DEN), and even with the workload (20, 22, 25, 26 touches), he was only an RB1 once and was a RB2 the other three weeks, White only earned 19 targets.

Alexander Mattison had his chance to shine as the Vikings RB1 and was replaced by Ty Chandler; Mattison is not a great pass blocker and has never earned 45+ targets. Ameer Abdullah is referred to as a “pass-catching back,” but he has also only earned 45+ targets in one season of his 9-year career.

Laube has every chance to win the pass-catching role on this roster with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell. Subpar offensive line check-downs should be a frequent part of this offense. If White or Mattison stumbles and Laube succeeds, he could work his way into more work in year one.

Laube is probably better off as a waiver wire pick up in redraft leagues, just keep an eye on his usage each week. He is one of my favorite 4th round picks in Dynasty rookie drafts, which are basically lottery picks. His ADP in dynasty start ups is 221st player off the board, stashing him on a taxi squad is smart. I’m in 60 leagues and I have Laube in 22 of them, he is my most rostered player across all of fantasy. At his price, it's like a one-dollar scratch-off.

Our consensus projections for Laube in the 2024 season are 69 carries for 408 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 36 receptions for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns.
