Eagles Release Star Defensive Player
The NFL off-season is underway, and it's time for players from all 32 NFL teams to be released. On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles made a tough decision when they released safety Kevin Byard.
Byard was sent to the Eagles from the Tennessee Titans last October at the NFL trade deadline. The Eagles gave up two day three picks and safety Terrell Edmunds for Byard.
The 30-year-old safety appeared in ten games for the Eagles, recording one interception.
Byard was once regarded as the best safety in the NFL, and in 2021, he was the leader of a Titans defense that was one of the best in football and was good enough to give the Titans the number one seed in the AFC.
It never worked out the way it was supposed to for the Eagles and Byard, and a lot of that had to do with just how bad the team was falling apart on both sides of the ball, so you can't blame Byard for the defense struggles and how bad the secondary was.
The Eagles will save around 13 million dollars in cap space after releasing Byard, and it's about to become a massive season for the organization.
Everyone in Philadelphia knows that it's time for the team to put up or shut up after their 2023 roller-coaster season when they looked like the best team in football for the first half of the year and then looked like the worst team in football the second half and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Head coach Nick Sirianni is on the hot seat going into the year after he had to let go of both his offensive and defensive coordinators after the horrible finish to the season.
The Eagles need to attack this offseason like their hair is on fire because if results don't change this upcoming season, then most people making decisions for the franchise won't see 2025.
