Elijah Mitchell Is No More Than A Fantasy Handcuff
All of these RBs in this tier were viewed as starters at one point and early fantasy picks, and now they are not viewed as draftable, but Mitchell still is. Elijah Mitchell shouldn’t go any earlier than close to the last round but is still expected to be the main back to Christian McCaffrey.
If CMC were to miss any time, Mitchell would be the team's starter. As we’ve seen in the past, Mitchell is a good back who can produce at a high level when given the opportunity. Unfortunately for Mitchell, it’s hard to take McCaffrey off the field, as he is the league's best, so Mitchell sees limited work.
Mitchell is no more than a later-round handcuff flier in drafts but offers value if CMC misses time. Unless he loses the backup role to newly drafted Issac Guerenedo, Deebo could see increased carry share in this scenario. Mitchell should probably be selected with a last pick by whoever has CMC on their team.
Our consensus projections for Mitchell in the 2024 season are 61 carries for 130 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. As well as 8 receptions, 52 yards, and 0 touchdowns.
