ESPN Analyst Purposes: A Crazy Deshaun Watson Trade
During ESPN's morning show GET UP on Friday, former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum proposed a trade that would send Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson and a 2024-second round pick to the New York Giants for quarterback Daniel Jones.
The Giants would take on all of Watson's money, that's why the Browns would also have to send a second-round pick and the Browns would get Jones, who has one year left of guaranteed money, and the Browns would be able to get out of it in 2025.
This trade is never happening, and the Browns would slam the phone down if the Giants ever called them with this offer. The Browns didn't pay Watson 230 million dollars guaranteed and gave up three first-round picks and a few other picks to see Watson only play in 12 games.
I understand Watson hasn't lived up to the hype yet, and who knows if he ever will, but the Browns aren't going to throw him away without knowing.
The Browns mortgaged their future for Watson, and they are either going to go places they haven't been before with him or will sink the ship, but they are going down together.
Tannenbaum is just doing what every media personality does and stirs up rumors during the NFL dead period to have a topic to talk about and get people going.
ESPN has a month before the new NFL league year starts, so they need something to discuss. You will be seeing these crazy ideas for the next four weeks.
