Evan Hull's Fantasy Outlook In 2024
In the 2023 draft, the Colts selected Hull with their fifth-round pick. In his rookie season, he only had one carry before suffering a knee injury that forced him to miss the rest of the season. With such little opportunity, it’s hard to tell how he will fit into the Colts' offense. Jonathan Taylor is the team's guaranteed starting RB, which leaves Hull to compete with Trey Sermon for backup duties.
Reports have shown that Sermon may be the current favorite to win that role. However, whoever wins the backup role will likely not get many touches and will mostly be used as a chance to pace back or when Taylor needs to catch his breath. In 2022, Hull showed in college that he could add production on the ground (221 carries for 913 yards and five TDs) while also being a solid pass catcher (55 receptions for 546 yards and two TDs).
Although it is unlikely he will get a significant role, his skill set could allow him to produce well in full PPR leagues if given the chance. He may not be the most elusive back, but he is solid at picking up short yardage gains when necessary, which could lead to some red zone touches.
However, Taylor will see the majority of those touches, and QB Anthony Richardson’s rushing ability takes away red zone potential from all Colts RBs. In redraft, he should only be taken in late rounds as a handcuff to Jonathan Taylor if Hull wins the backup role. In dynasty leagues, he is still worth the hold, at least until we see how he transitions into the NFL.
Our consensus projections for Hull in the 2024 season are 38 carries for 98 yards and 0 rushing touchdowns. As well as 7 receptions, 42 yards, and 0 touchdowns.
