Five Breakout Candidates For The Indianapolis Colts In 2024
The Indianapolis Colts are poised for a breakout season, driven by a promising young, talented group of players and a young coach, Shane Steichen. The team is set to leverage the dynamic playmaking abilities of young quarterback Anthony Richardson. So, who is ready to break onto the scene in 2024? Here are five Colts players who could impress this season.
5) Jelani Woods
Jelani Woods, who is 6'7 and boasts impressive athleticism, has struggled to stay healthy. He is an apparent mismatch for defenders at the tight end position, and I believe he will surpass Mo Allie-Cox as the starting tight end sometime this year. As the starter, with Anthony Richardson as quarterback, Woods is an easy pick to be a breakout player for the Indianapolis Colts.
4) Julian Blackmon
Julian Blackmon signed a prove-it deal late in the offseason. He must prove himself this year, or the Colts may draft another safety. I believe his second year at strong safety, switching from Free Safety will show why he was drafted and re-signed by Chris Ballard.
3) Alec Pierce
Alec Pierce is entering his third season with the Indianapolis Colts. Pierce has shown flashes of greatness but hasn't been consistent in his career. There were times last year when he dropped passes, and there were also times when passes weren't thrown at him while he was wide open. If Pierce and Richardson can build the chemistry I expect them to have, there's no reason he can't have a breakout year.
2) Kwity Paye
Kwity Paye, a former first-round pick, has not met expectations. While he has the physical tools to excel as a pass rusher, he has not fulfilled his potential. Recent draft pick Laiatu Latu could be the scare he needs to replace him as a starter. If he stays healthy this season and steps up his performance, Paye has the potential to emerge as a standout player for the Colts.
1) Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson was selected as the fourth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He possesses the athleticism and arm strength to have a significant impact, provided he continues to develop and adapt to the speed and complexity of the NFL. Richardson is expected to become an elite quarterback and franchise star this season.
