5 Potential Coaches For The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers were rejected by Dan Hurley's 6-year, $70 million offer. While JJ Redick's name is circulating, his lack of coaching experience raises doubts about his suitability for the position. Here are five potential replacements for Darvin Ham.
David Adelman
David Adelman is a fan favorite with a championship pedigree, which the Lakers need. Although he is currently an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets and has ties to the Cleveland job, I believe Adelman would be a great fit for the Lakers if he signs with them.
JJ Redick
There were talks about JJ Redick potentially joining the Lakers, but there are now reports that these talks have stalled. It's hard to know what's true with all the false reports, but if JJ Redick joins the Lakers, they will need to surround him with experienced coaches due to his lack of coaching experience.
Bruce Pearl
Bruce Pearl is the head coach of the Auburn Tigers and may be considering a move to the NBA. This would be the right time for Pearl to make that leap. He has built successful programs at Auburn and Tennessee before that. I believe he would be the perfect person to build a strong foundation for the Lakers, which I think is currently lacking. However, I'm unsure how well he would mesh with LeBron.
James Borrego
Who? Yes, James Borrego is considered one of the top candidates to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Borrego comes from the Greg Popovich coaching tree but hasn't succeeded as a head coach yet. Nonetheless, he's the only candidate who has had a second interview, and he might be the perfect fit for LeBron, as he's the type of coach LeBron wants to work with. If you know what I mean?
Scott Drew
Scott Drew currently heads the Baylor Bears. I haven't heard any rumors about him joining the Lakers. Considering that Hurley turned down the Lakers and talks with Redick are supposedly not going well, I believe Drew wouldn't be a bad option for the Lakers. He has successfully built a winning culture at Baylor, and I think he could do the same if he transitioned to the NBA to become the next coach of the Lakers.
Summary
I believe JJ Redick is a strong candidate. Just consider how well he and LeBron James connect on a podcast. He may not be my top choice, but I see potential in their chemistry. While Redick doesn't have coaching experience, he has a good grasp of the game. If he is supported by former head coaches like Mike D'Antoni or Stan Van Gundy, I think he could excel.
