Five Potential Names For London NFL Expansion Team
The National Football League has been rumored to expand for several years. While the league has had 32 teams for nearly all of the 21st century, there is always a possibility that the NFL could look to add one more.
Could The NFL Follow NHL's Footsteps With Expansion?
The National Hockey League is the latest of the four major professional sports leagues to expand in recent years, adding the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017 and the Seattle Kraken in 2021. Fans have speculated that the NFL could follow by adding a 33rd and/or 34th football team via expansion.
The league has not expanded since 2002, when the Houston Texans joined. But the NFL has flirted with London, England, for a while. The league hosts a couple of games each year in the city, and the arena has a great stadium ready to go.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have also been rumored to relocate. So whether the Jaguars relocate or the NFL awards London an expansion team, here are five names for a potential London NFL team.
London Jaguars
The relocation option: If the Jaguars decide to relocate to London and keep everything the same, they would be known as the London Jaguars. This is not the most exciting name, but it is possible.
London Monarchs
The London Monarchs represented The Big Smoke in the NFL’s experimental Europe league in the 1990s. Reviving the name with a red, gold and black color scheme would make a lot of sense.
London Royals
While the name would be shared with the Kansas City Royals of the MLB, the London Royals is another name that makes sense. The team could go unique and join the Ravens and Vikings as another purple team.
London Dragons
The London Dragons represent the 14 watch dragons that guard the city. It would be a unique and exciting name with a lot of potential.
London Tigers
There used to be a baseball team in England called the London Tigers. Why not bring that name back for a professional football team?
