Gardner Minshew Is Running Out Of Fantasy Mania
In the 2023 season, Minshew started 13 games after starter Anthony Richardson suffered multiple injuries. This was the first time Minshew had gotten many starting opportunities since his first two seasons, and he disappointed fantasy owners. In only two weeks, Minshew finished inside the top 10 QBs and had 6 weeks where he failed to make it into the top 20.
Minshew finished 25th in completion percentage and only managed to throw for 15 TDs. In the offseason, he signed a two-year deal with the Raiders. The Raiders have some good targets in Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and rookie Brock Bowers, but the rest of the offense may be worse than the Colts. There is definitely a playcalling drop off if anything. Minshew is also not a guaranteed starter, as second-year QB Aiden O’Connell showed some potential in his rookie season.
It is assumed the starter job is Minshew, but if he struggles early on in the season or O’Connell impresses in training camp, Minshew could lose that starting job. The Raiders may have lost RB Josh Jacobs, but rumors exist that the team still plans to focus on the run game, which will lower Minshews’ floor by a decent amount.
In 1 QB league, Minshew should be avoided at all costs, as he will rarely perform better than other QBs available. In 2 QB leagues, he should only be taken as a potential QB 3, but you should still try to look elsewhere, as his starting role is not secured. If you get offers for him you should try and take them.
Our consensus projections for Minshew in the 2024 season would be: 238 completions, 2571 yards, 17 touchdowns, 5 interceptions through the air, and 31 carries for 96 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
