German Bundesliga: Top Four For The Top Four, Matchday Two, 2022-23
Which German Bundesliga games are you looking forward to this weekend?
The 2022-23 European football season is getting into full swing in just a few weeks and there will be fantastic games week in and week out. As the domestic league season is finally returning, it will be interesting to see how some of these teams handle it while competing in European competitions. With teams playing in the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Conference League it means we will be getting a week’s worth of football games, all leading up to the World Cup in Qatar in November. These are the four most interesting games in the German Bundesliga for August 13th and 14th, as matchday number two gets underway.
German Bundesliga Top 4 Games For Matchday Two
Saturday, August 13th
1) Leverkusen vs Augsburg
Both of these teams had a rough start to the brand new Bundesliga season as they both lost in their opening games. However, for Leverkusen it was a much closer 0-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund, while Augsburg lost 0-4 to Freiburg at home. I absolutely expect Leverkusen to bounce back but as for Augsburg they don’t improve soon they couldn’t find their way into the relegation zone really quickly. Leverkusen will most likely control this one against a weak Augsburg team that is headed for the relegation zone in another few weeks. I have Bayern Leverkusen taking the win home in this game.
My Game Pick: Leverkusen
2) Hertha vs Frankfurt
Hertha Berlin takes on Frankfurt in this one as they are both coming off of a loss during matchday one in the German Bundesliga. Hertha Berlin suffered a big defeat last weekend after falling to Union Berlin by a score of 1-3. While Frankfurt ended up as punching bags for German giant Bayern Munich in what was a 1-6 lopsided affair. Frankfurt also lost the Super Cup against Real Madrid earlier this week and they will be looking to break a two match losing streak heading into this one. I expect them to do just that with a win in this game.
My Game Pick: Frankfurt
3) RB Leipzig vs Cologne
Leipzig opened up their new 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign with a 1-1 draw against Stuttgart. However, their season is likely to pick up as they are getting Timo Werner back from Chelsea and the last time he was in the Bundesliga he was lighting it up. Meanwhile, Cologne picked up a huge win on matchday one against a returning and newly promoted Schalke by a score of 3-1. I expect this one to be a decent game that ends in another Draw for RB Leipzig and more points for Cologne. As both these teams will get on the board during the second weekend of Bundesliga play.
My game pick: Draw

4) Bayern vs Wolfsburg
Bayern opened the new Bundesliga season with a huge victory over Frankfurt. Even without Robert Lewandowski, they looked solid and like they will once again repeat as champions for another year in the Bundesliga. They looked virtually unbeatable in game number one and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw more of the same here on matchday two. Wolfsburg opened up their campaign with a 2-2 draw with Bremen. As of the result of this one I look for it to be Bayern all the way for a second straight week.
My game pick: Bayern
