Grading The 49ers Khalil Davis Trade
Hold up! There is one more last-minute trade that has occurred before the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline. This came out a little while after the deadline ended, but both teams managed to agree on a deal. This trade involves interior defensive tackle Khalil Davis, and the details of that trade are down below.
Trade Details for Khalil Davis
San Francisco 49ers Acquire: DT Khalil Davis
Houston Texans Acquire: 2026 7th Round Pick
San Francisco 49ers Side
Ever since Javon Hargrave went down with an injury, the 49er's interior defensive tackle core has been lackluster. While Davis is not a star player, he is extra depth that can help solidify that defensive line, and he could be a solid rotational player for this defense. The 49ers lacked that depth, and giving up a 7th-round pick for his services won't hurt them.
Houston Texans Side
It was rumored for a while, that Khalil Davis almost did not make the 53-man roster a few weeks ago. He has not done a lot this season for the Texans, and has usually been a rotational player. Getting a late-round pick for a 28-year-old, who wasn't in their plans in the long term, is a solid value. The Texans already have a replacement for Davis Mario Edwards Jr back on the defensive line once his PED suspension has been completed.
Grades For The Khalil Davis Trade
San Francisco 49ers - B
Houston Texans - B
Not a groundbreaking trade, but it makes sense for both sides to do. The Texans get a draft pick for a player who barely made the 53-man roster, while the 49ers get some needed depth on the defensive line. As for who wins this trade, it's hard to make that decision. To make my life easier, both teams are going to get the same B grade.
