Will Hunter Renfrow Forever Remain A Hypothetical For The Raiders?

The Tale Of A Slot Receiver Who Had So Much Promise, But Couldn't Deliver On It

According to Raiders Wire, the Las Vegas Raiders plan to release WR Hunter Renfrow. Raider Nation will be disappointed when this news is released earlier today. We understand that it's a business and these things happen, but not many fans are going to be happy with this move. I have to admit that I am not thrilled with this move either, but the money he is making is too much for the direction the team is going. Additionally, the Raiders would save close to $8 million in cap space if they released Renfrow before a certain date.

However, the career we thought Renfrow was going to have with the Raiders was a roller-coaster ride. In his first three years in the league, he kept getting better. He and Derek Carr had nice chemistry. Unfortunately, after an injury-riddled 2021, he seemed to not even be factored into the offense with the acquisition of Jakobi Meyers and the emergence of other wide receivers like Tre Tucker. We all thought Renfrow would be even better when Josh McDaniels came in. Some of us even tried to say that he was going to be the next Wes Welker, mainly because Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, and Chris Hogan flourished in McDaniels' offensive scheme.

But for some reason, McDaniels still did not use Renfrow when he was back to full health and ready to work. Even after Antonio Pierce tried to get Hunter involved as much as he could down the stretch, we saw flashes of the 2021 Hunter Renfrow. Despite the progress, I think both sides will mutually part ways. As I mentioned earlier, his production cannot justify his salary. He is just another piece of a promising team that McDaniels ruined with his coaching style. He really was one of the worst coaches the Raiders have ever had. I do not know which coach did worse for the team, McDaniels or Hue Jackson.

We can blame either side but at the end of the day, it just didn't work out like it should have. Now, maybe we will get lucky, and Renfrow comes back at a cheaper price but I feel the damage is already done. At this point, I want to thank Hunter Renfrow for his hard work as a Raider, and I think we will always remember the heads-up play he made against the Chargers on special teams in 2021. That play exemplifies how dedicated Renfrow was to the team, and I have a feeling Raider Nation will always welcome him back with open arms! Thanks #13 for representing the Silver and Black with pride, and poise. You will be missed but don't be afraid to come back whenever you want. Once a Raider always a Raider. Raider Nation for life!!
