If The Boston Celtics Want Banner 18, Jaylen Must Do This
The Boston Celtics have the best roster in the NBA for what seems like the third year in a row. However, this roster drastically differs from the ones that green teamers use. Celtics fans have often fallen in love with the role players playing above their talent (Marcus Smart, Isiah Thomas, Avery Bradley), but this version of the Cs is about as top-heavy as they ever had been. This isn't a bad thing, but the second unit will at least need to be serviceable.
With players like Pritchard, Hauser, and Horford getting run on this unit, it lacks a leader on both sides of the court. Horford could've played this role a few years ago, but now he isn't suited for that spot.
Through five games in the 2023 season, it is clear that Holiday and Porzingis fit on this roster and were upgrades to the players who left. When the offense is cooking, Tatum has played off Porzingis in the two-man game, Derrick White does the intangibles, Jrue Holiday commands the court, and Brown feels a bit out of place.
There is a perfect solution for both of these issues to increase the Celtics' chances of lifting the Larry O'Brien trophy. Jaylen Brown should be the leader of the second unit; this doesn't mean playing him off the bench or cutting his minutes.
How Would Jaylen Brown Lead The Celtics Second Unit?
Jaylen Brown's rotational minutes should oppose Tatum & Porzingis. When they are off the court, he should be on it, proving to everyone that he could lead his team by taking charge and being the best player on the court.
Pritchard can help with the ball handling and bringing it up the court, but the offense should run through Brown. He should either get the ball on the stripe, make two dribbles, and shoot, or play the pick-and-roll game on the wings for the three-point ball.

This would instantly fix the most significant issue many beat reporters or basketball guys have had, which is the team's depth after the starting five. This would also help Browns desire to be the number one option on a team without sacrificing the touches from Tatum or Kristaps.
Through part of the season, Brown looks like he doesn't have a purpose. Without adding anyone to this roster, this is the best way to improve the second unit and fully utilize Brown.
