Impact Player For Auburn Is Set To Return From Knee Injury
It was almost even worse on an already rough day for Auburn Basketball.
Not only did they suffer a home loss to the Kentucky Wildcats, ending their 16-game winning streak, the sixth-longest in program history, and tied for the 6th most home wins in a row in the country.
Auburn's second-leading scorer and rebounder Senior forward Jaylin Williams' went down with an apparent knee injury when he attempted a dunk over Kentucky's Sophomore Forward Ugonna Onyenso.
Per Auburn Athletics, the knee injury sustained by Auburn fifth-year forward Jaylin Williams' during Saturday’s loss to Kentucky is non-season ending. Although, no timetable was given for Williams' return.
Jaylin Williams has been a staple of Auburn Basketball's program under Bruce Pearl and has patiently waited for his opportunity to shine. Williams' became a full-time starter in the 2020-2021 season and hasn't looked back. In that stretch, Williams became the winningest player in Auburn basketball history.
With Williams' absence, Auburn will have to rely on 6'7 forward Chaney Johnson and 6'6 forward Chris Moore to fill the massive shoes that Williams left behind.
Moore's first season as a starter for the Tigers at small forward will have to move down to the power forward, where the Tigers will have to play small ball. For the transfer, Chaney Johnson's first season with the Tigers' has averaged 14 minutes per game.
Next For Auburn
Fortunately for the Tigers’ their bye week came at the perfect time not having a game on Wednesday and the lone game coming on Saturday when the Tigers travel to Athens, Georgia to take on the struggling Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs have lost 6 straight games in SEC play and the game will be aired on SEC Network at 5:00 PM CT/ 6:00 PM ET.
