Insane Insights From Mr. McMahon - Episode 2: Heat

This is episode two of the Mr. McMahon documentary. This documentary is focused on Former WWE Chairman Vincent McMahon. At one point, he was on top of the wrestling world, but now his legacy is rotten, and it's such a fall from grace. This episode is titled Heat, and it focuses on the earlier scandals in the late 80s and early 90s.

10. Hogan Admits To Rating Out Jesse Ventura

With the success of WrestleMania, Vince decided to do a second one. In the lead-up to the show, Jesse Ventura chose to get the wrestlers to form a union. It was the most incredible opportunity to do it as business was booming.

The schedules were inhumane, and wrestlers were not on guaranteed contracts. Unfortunately, that didn't work for Hogan. When hearing about the union talks, Hogan immediately told Vince. Vince was angry and decided to part ways with Ventura.

For the first time, Hogan admits to it with a smile on his face. No wonder Jesse Ventura refuses to forgive or even talk to Hogan. There's still no union in pro wrestling today, and Dave Meltzer believes it's even less likely to happen now.

9. Vince Wanted Andre's Surgery Before WM3?

WrestleMania 3 was discussed, and the information provided was common knowledge. One intriguing fact was how Vince McMahon talked Andre into doing the match. Andre left the business and was in the middle of filming The Princess Bride movie. Vince meets with Andre and discusses getting him booked for a match against Hulk Hogan.

The plan was to make Andre the heel of the match since he was always a baby face. Vince also recommended that Andre have back surgery before the bout. When he heard this, Andre laughed but understood when he realized it could be a moneymaker.

It's too bad that statement isn't true. Andre the Giant wrestled that match with Hogan at WrestleMania 3 while injured. The plan was always to have Andre get surgery immediately after. It was not until four months after WMIII that he got the surgery.

8. Why WWE Went Back To Hogan In 1991

WWE was already looking to prepare for a successor to the face of the company. Many behind the scenes started noticing that Hogan's aura was fading, and with WrestleMania VI around the corner, they wanted to push The Ultimate Warrior. Vince himself tried to strike while the iron was hot and pushed Warrior. It's too bad that Warrior was difficult to work with, never connected to the fan base, and got fired from the company.

The next plan for Hogan was to have him feud with Sgt Slaughter who would turn into an Iraqi Sympathizer. This was a terrible idea from the get-go as the company got in a ton of hot water trying to capitalize off real-life events. It also didn't help that Slaughter was past his prime.

7. Mr. McMahon's Reaction To Steroid Trials

1992 was not a great year for Vince. Dr George Zahorian was arrested and convicted of illegally supplying anabolic steroids to his patients. Zahorian was one of WWF's top doctors and the government found evidence to go after the WWF.

When these alligatons hit the WWF started increasing their testing and added Steroids to the list. Vince even admits that he did take steroids and promised the company would be drug-free.

The same day, Hogan decided to go to the Arsenio Hall and it was a disaster. Vince told Hulk to be honest, but this is Hogan. The dude lies so many times that Pinocchio's nose would go from LA to NY. On the Arsenio Hall show Hogan claims that he only took steroids a total of 3 times in his career. Great, now Pinocchio's nose has reached across the Atlantic Ocean.

Hogan admits to lying about the steroid claims on the show and should have listened to Vince. Vince was quoted saying "you need to tell the truth and just take what comes with it.". If Vince did that, then he would have been in a cage decades ago.

6. The Disgraceful Ringboy Scandal

The Ring Boys Scandal
The Ring Boys Scandal

The documentary then goes into one of the most disgraceful scandals in the company's history called The Ringboy Scandal. This scandal involves the abuse of young boys. It was reported that Mel Philips, Terry Garvin, and Pat Patterson would bring underage boys to the show and harass them. The documentary even showcased footage one of the Ringboys (Tom Cole) speaking out. He claimed, Pat Patterson would touch him and in refusing was fired at the age of 16.

Mr.McMahon settled the case and decided to let both Philips and Garvin go. As for Pat Patterson, he ultimately resigned from the company. However, Vince believed that Pat Patterson was innocent, so he brought him back.

This wasn't mentioned in the documentary but Tom Cole committed suicide in 2021. According to his brother, Three months before he died, Patterson passed away, and the man was glorified by everyone in the business, which affected Cole mentally, and he took his life.

5. Pat Patterson Allegedly Assaulted Tony Atlas

There are more disgusting allegations regarding Pat Patterson. Professional wrestler Tony Atlas came out with his allegation. Atlas claimed everyone in the locker room knew Pat was a creep and would even grab his "marble pouch."

He couldn't complain because Patterson had abundant power as Vince's right-hand man. It's just sad that Patterson was also being a creep to professional wrestlers. This episode does not paint Pat Patterson in a good light at all.

4. Vince's Disgraceful Chatterton Comments

It gets worse for Vince as female referee Rita Chatterton would accuse him of rape. The details are graphic and the key sentence from Rita is "she had to keep satisfying Vince in order to keep the million-dollar contract".

Vince has publicly denied it, but he backtracks claiming that it was consensual. That's not all as he was quoted saying "Once you are accused of r***, you are an r*****. If it was r***, the statute of limitations had run out.". Wow, that is a pretty damning statement right there.

3. Vince Confirms The Neck Surgery Story

When Vince was in the Steroid Trials, he was seen wearing a neck brace. It was debated whether he actually needed it or used it as a sympathy card play. Vince confirmed he got neck surgery and needed the brace. Did that brace also give him a leg up in the court case? Dave Meltzer believes so.

It could have helped ensure that he won the case as the WWF TV deal was in danger. In the documentary, the founder herself Kay Koplovitz admitted if Vince was guilty, the WWF TV deal would have been terminated. WWF would have been in a bad spot.

2. WCW & Bischoff's Approach To Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan officially parted ways with Vince and WWF and became a free agent. Eric Bischoff was working with WCW and knew they needed something to widen the gap between WCW and WWF. He was keeping an eye on the trials and knew Hulk was going to be a free agent. His 1993 run with WWF was a disaster, and a change was needed.

Eric decided he was going to approach him to come to work with WCW while Hulk was filming a movie. Hogan wanted more time with his family, guaranteed money, creative control, and fewer dates to work. Turner agreed and immediately offered the contract to him.

1. The Government Plan With Hulk Hogan

While Hulk signed with the WCW, he still had to deal with the Steroid Trials. The government wanted Hogan to be the star witness. Hogan claims that the government told him if he didn't go along with it, they would turn attention to him. Meltzer knew that the government had something in Hogan but could never confirm that they threatened him.

Hulk testifying terrified a lot of people including Vince. Especially as he was granted immunity and signed with WCW. They didn't know what he was going to say or how he was going to come off. The episode then ends on a cliffhanger.

My Thoughts On The Episode 2

This episode was darker than the first. Especially when the talk of the Ringboy Scandal started. It's disturbing and disgusting what happened there. The thing that people need to be reminded of is that Vince still decided to bring Patterson and Mel Philips back.

Vince dodged a real bullet with the Steroids Trials. It's clear that if he was guilty, the WWF would have lost its TV deal. Vince McMahon threw himself under the bus with his disgusting comments about the Rita Chatterton Allegations. My jaw dropped when he said that, and it's unbelievable that Vince would allow those words to come out of his mouth.

The next episode is titled "Screwjob" and it's likely going to cover the Montreal Screwjob. If you couldn't tell from
