Issac Guerendo: Fantasy Outlook Is Tough In 2024
Issac Guerendo was drafted in the 4th round at pick 129th overall by the San Francisco 49ers, which is a tough landing spot for the short term since CMC will eat 85% of the workload as long as he's healthy. He could work his way into a role in the long term, but he is already 24, and the 9ers just extended McCaffrey, so Guerendo won't be a focal point until he is 27 unless CMC gets an injury.
Guerendo wasn't heavily utilized during his 6 years in school (COVID year), compiling 231 carries for 1392 yards (6.0 yards per carry) and 17 rushing touchdowns along with 42 receptions 358 yards (8.5 yards per reception) and 1 touchdown. Issac only started in two of the 6 seasons he played, where he got a majority of his production. He is a combine darling who flashed his ability with a 99 athleticism score, which was 1st among all backs at the combine (4.33 40 with a 1.55 10-yard split, 6.94 3 cone drill time, and 4.15 20-yard shuttle).
The light workload during his school years could mean that Issac should be fresh and ready to handle a post-CMC workload even a couple of years later. The 49ers have had an extremely productive rushing system since Kyle took over at HC.
If CMC were to miss any time, Guerendo would have to beat out Elijah Mitchell for an elite role in fantasy, which is much more feasible than trying to outshine Christian. Guerendo is going in the 4th round of rookie drafts or is a priority add in waivers after? In startups, he is the 210th player off the board, which is practically a lottery ticket at that value.
Our consensus projections for Guerendo in the 2024 season are 43 carries for 309 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. As well as 8 receptions, 74 yards, and 1 touchdown.
