A Fantasy Redemption Arc For Ja'Marr Chase In 2024
According to FantasyPros, Ja'Marr Chase had an ADP of 4.7 in half PPR leagues in 2023. Chase only missed one game last year and finished with the 23rd most fantasy points of any non-QB in the league. The down year has not impacted fantasy managers' outlook on Chase, as his ADP is currently sitting at 4.3.
Chase was the definition of boom or bust last year, finishing five weeks as a WR1, six games as WR4 or worse, and zero games as a WR2 (half-PPR format). Inconsistent performances were not a problem for Chase in 2022, however, so if Burrow can stay healthy in 2024, Chase’s consistency should improve.
Despite Joe Burrow going down for the season in Week 11, the Bengals had the seventh-most pass attempts as a team last season. Burrow averaged 38.6 pass attempts per game in the nine healthy games he played last year and 35.8 pass attempts in a fully healthy 2022 season.
I would not expect this to change since the Bengals did not add a top-end running back in Free Agency or the NFL Draft after they decided to move on from Joe Mixon. With Zack Moss and Chase Brown leading the rushing attack, expect another season with high passing volume from Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
This will bode well for Chase, as the Bengals targeted the Wide Receiver position on 65.5% of their passing attempts, which was 6th in the NFL in 2023. Chase is in line for a big season and has an argument to be the first Wide Receiver taken off the board in 2024 redraft leagues.
Our consensus projections for Chase in the 2024 season would be: 122 receptions, 1636 yards, 10 touchdowns through the air and 4 carries for 12 yards and 1 rushing touchdown.
