Jacksonville Jaguars Make Surprising Cuts Ahead Of Free Agency
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a big off-season ahead of them. After finishing 9-8 after an 8-3 start to the season, the team needs to fill its holes and try to compete again in 2024. But the big problem is that the team needs to create some cap space, especially if it wants to retain star-free agents, such as wide receiver Calvin Ridley and star pass-rusher Josh Allen.

The team has announced that it has cut safety Rayshawn Jenkins and cornerback Darious Williams. Cutting Williams will save 11.5 million in cap space, and cutting Jenkins will save 5.1 million in cap space. This gives the Jaguars around 40 million in spending money, but the team is now without two of its top defensive backs.
Jaguars Move On From Williams and Jenkins To Save Cap Space
Darious Williams signed a three-year, 30 million-dollar contract with the Jaguars in 2022 after winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. In the 2023 season, he started all 17 games, recording two forced fumbles and four interceptions. He also added a pick-six. The 30-year-old had a 79.5 PFF grade and will be looking for his fourth team since 2018.
Rashawn Jenkins was signed in 2021 after four years with the Los Angeles Chargers. After signing a four-year 35 million dollar contract, he was a crucial leader in the Jaguars magical 2022 season, which saw the team make the playoffs for the first time since 2017 after having back-to-back first-overall picks in the NFL Draft.
Jenkins will be remembered for his two interceptions against the Dallas Cowboys in a huge upset win, one of which was a pick-six in overtime to win the game. He will also be remembered for strip-sacking Josh Dobbs against the Titans to send Jacksonville to the playoffs. The 30-year-old should have many suitors in free agency.
