Jalen Hurts & The Tush Push Still A Fantasy Cheat Code?
Hurts is coming off the 23-24 season, finishing as the second-best-producing fantasy quarterback. He only finished outside of the top 12 quarterbacks in 3 out of the 18 weeks, and in one of those games, he did not even take 50% of the Eagles' offensive snaps (week 18). Over the last couple of years, we have seen Hurts getting an impressive number of rushing touchdowns due to the play we know as “Tush Push” or “The Brotherly Shove.”
He is more than capable of scoring on other runs, but the play definitely added a lot to his total (15 rushing TDs). However, we may see that play ran with less frequency after the retirement of future Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce and the acquisition of RB Saquon Barkley. Not only might Barkley take away TDs from Hurts, but could also take away designed QB rushing plays.
The team around Hurts is elite; the question for this offense is how Kellen Moore will call it. Dak Prescott had his best year after Moore's departure, and although Herbert was hurt, he had 8 QB1 finishes in 13 games played, so there are positive and negative results for
Hurts has proven he can throw the ball, but he is not someone who pops into your head when you think of elite passing talent. His rushing upside sometimes bails out his fantasy scores. With the combination of these factors, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Hurts take a small step back but still possess the floor of being a top-10 quarterback with a ceiling to finish as a top 3. At only 25 years old, Hurts has the success and upside of being at the top of his position for quite some time in Dynasty and Superflex alike.
Our consensus projections for Hurts in the 2024 season would be: 376 completions, 4341 yards, 27 touchdowns, 9 interceptions through the air, and 143 carries for 640 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.
