Jalen McMillan & His Path To Fantasy Success

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Jalen McMillan with the 92nd overall pick in the third round of the NFL draft. McMillan has decent draft capital, being taken in the top 100 due to his 164 receptions, 2143 yards (13.1 yards per reception), and 17 touchdowns at Washington.

A plus side to being in a Washington offense with so many weapons is McMillan understands how to play a supporting role, which is what will be happening, at least for this season, with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin ahead of him in the pecking order. He could take the other outside role from Trey Palmer, but Godwin is moving into the slot, and Evans doesn’t come off the field much. Baker Mayfield supported a WR1 and WR3 last year, and I think there was some room to support another low-end flex option.

Even if McMillan is able to supplant Trey Palmer, Chris Godwin, and Mike Evans, who are going to dominate the target share this year, look for him to pass the eye test for the future because it’s going to be hard for him to get into the mix statistically in year one. He seems like strictly a dynasty rather than a sleeper for Redraft.

Our consensus projections for McMillan in the 2024 season are 37 receptions, 422 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
